A former Canary, Grecian, Imp, Pilgrim and then a Gingerbread. Jason Minett is one of a few players that can boast of having played in the Premiership at this level. Born in Peterborough, Jason signed as a trainee with Norwich City as an 18 year-old having spent many years with them as an associate schoolboy. However having made just three senior appearances for the Canaries (all of which ended in defeat), one as a Premiership substitute. Jason flew south to join Exeter City. He then spent the next two years with City, clocking up some 105 appearances for the club, scoring five goals. A move north soon followed and a two year stay with Lincoln City. Another 58 football league appearances and Jason Minett added another five league goals to his tally. However Jason was to finish the 1996/97 season back at St James Park, Exeter where he played a further twenty-one times for the club. However in the summer of 1997 Exeter City released him, and he soon joined Conference side Doncaster Rovers. He spent the next two years with Doncaster as they tried to regain their league status, however Jason wasn't in their plans and he was released at the end of the 1999/00 season. Where he joined newly promoted Boston United, looking to strengthen their side following there Championship season in the Doc Martens Premier. Minett managed just 15 appearances for the Pilgrims before being transfer listed in May 2001. Despite interest from Conference sides, Jason returned to Norfolk and signed for Tony Spearing's Kings Lynn. However Lynn struggled and Jason was transfer listed, before joining Stockbridge PS in January 2002 on-loan. He then joined Grantham on transfer deadline day, before making his debut for the Gingerbreads on April fools day away at Rothwell Town in the Eastern Division. He was to go on and play a part in all six of the sides victories as Grantham clinched runners-up spot behind Hastings, and claim promotion back to the Doc Martens Premier. An injury-plagued season saw Jason play just 27 times during the 2002/03 season, scoring once. His first goal for the club coming in the 3-2 FA Trophy victory at home to Hinckley. He was also sent-off in a 'card-fest' of a game at Morecambe in the FA Cup as seven Grantham players were booked. In November 2003 Jason appeared in the FA Cup First Round proper at home to Leyton Orient, the following week Minett missed two penalties in a minute as Grantham lost at home to Chelmsford City in the Southern Premier League. Jason signed for Lincoln United following his release at the end of the 2003/04 season. However, Minett returned to Grantham in July 2007, following the return to the club for John Wilkinson as manager.
